EET 2.0: Chamber of Deputies overrides the Senate, EET legislation heads to the president for signature
On 9 September 2026, the Chamber of Deputies overrode the Senate and approved the original wording of the Electronic Sales Registration Act, under which electronic sales registration is to be reintroduced from 1 January 2027. The Act will now be submitted to the President of the Czech Republic for signature.
However, the new electronic sales registration system will not simply reinstate the system that was abolished in the past. EET 2.0 introduces a number of changes aimed at creating a simpler and less administratively burdensome system that reflects current payment methods and technological developments.
Compared with the original EET system, the new legislation will also reduce the administrative burden on businesses. Businesses will not be required to print receipts or purchase special cash register equipment. Smaller businesses will have access to a free web application provided by the Czech Financial Administration and, subject to certain conditions, a simplified EET OFF regime.
More detailed information on the individual changes, businesses’ obligations, exemptions and the practical implications of EET 2.0 is available in our previous article here.
In this context, the Ministry of Finance and the Czech Financial Administration are preparing an extensive information campaign to provide businesses with timely guidance on who will be subject to the new obligation, which payments will need to be registered and what steps must be taken before the system is launched. The campaign will also include expert seminars held as part of a nationwide roadshow, giving businesses an opportunity to obtain practical information and discuss their specific questions. The first seminars will take place in September, followed by further events in other regions of the Czech Republic.
Up-to-date information on the seminar schedule, registration and other aspects of the introduction of EET 2.0 is available on the information portal eet.gov.cz.
